Epcot

Epcot is best known for its iconic giant golf ball. As soon as he saw it, Matty immediately wanted to know what was inside the golf ball. We ignored his constant demands for answers and walked as quickly as possible to Test Track. Even though it was early there were no fastpasses available and the regular queue was already 90 minutes long! We queued and queued eventually making the cool air con inside queue ( phew ). Inside Luke enjoyed the drawings and exploded models of Chevrolet cars, as they were the ride sponsor. The ride began by allowing you to design and customise your own car from a list of preconfigured options. We had watched a short film telling us what to do whilst in the queue line. By the time we got into the design room, Matty had already decided fast, lean and mean was the order of the day and I think all Luke got to choose was the colour and wheels. Liz and I went for a nice small eco model with room for just two. Once the designing was completed, you then ran tests on the vehicle you’d just designed. The tests were eco, power, performance and reactivity. The tests were undertaken in a car you sat in. The computer announced each test as it commenced, we performed the test in our car and saw the result on a screen at the end. Naturally Maty was really very sad that our car was continually beaten by his car. We listened to his bragging for the next 15 minutes. Thankfully the exit route contained a showroom full of Chevrolet cars and trucks. The bragging was soon forgotten as Luke and Matty both ran around sitting in cars and trucks. There were too many for even Luke to decide which was best and rate the engines and other points like he usually does. (Thank goodness he’s into new cars rather than old wrecks….. sorry I mean classic cars. (Did you see what we did there Char – lol) )

As we left the test track event area / showroom via the shop, it became clear the rain had set in. We’ve been lucky with the rain and have missed it totally some days. To be honest it was a welcome relief from the hot sun. I know that seems silly but its’ so hot poor Luke isn’t always enjoying it. Sticky hot and bothered sums it up. I reckon he enjoys it as much as Grandpa does. The rest of Epcot is lots of eco related stuff from sustainable plant propagation to planet elements (weather) and environmental issues e.g. earthquake proof houses. There are lots of pro recycle films and exhibits. It makes you think that USA are way behind UK in their green / recycling initiatives.

The park is kind of a figure of eight. The top part being the attractions and the bottom being countries of the world set around the edge of a giant lake. We walked around the different countries represented at Epcot. Once again England saw red phone boxes and letter boxes. The rose and crown pub was very like the Queen Vic inside, making me wonder if the designer was an East Enders fan. They served “English food”…. Fish and chips, shepherds pie and corned beef. This made me chuckle as I got the first two choices but who picked the latter??? I’d have thought cheese and pickle ploughmans was a much better choice.

By the end of the day we were all tired from the walking but also from the day before which had left us totally exhausted. Wen went back to hotel to do washing and relax. Tea was reheat giant pizza from night before. Even after tea we still had two slices left!!
