Today we headed in the opposite direction from Malaga, down the coast to Fuengirola which is a large city on the coast and the final stop of the railway line we’re on. Originally it was forecast to be rainy and grey today, but we managed to dodge the rain and swap the dark clouds for white clouds and occasional patches of sun.
Fuengirola is pretty sprawling, but despite this, we decided not to venture along the main shopping areas and remained near the beach and the seafront promenade. Our rationale was we could see shops at home, but not the sea. Just by a stroke of luck, we stumbled upon a bakery and Liz and Char took advantage of our timely discovery to order themselves two stonking-sized ham and cheese focaccia which they then had lightly toasted. Having banished their hunger and exercised their jaws extensively with all the munching, we ambled down to a small pier / wave breaker which provided two calmer areas for sea swimming.
Due to the sun not playing ball today, we decided to head back to the hotel for drinks in the hotel bar. But it was a good experience to have visited the city – all but briefly.
This evening we plan to venture up to the rooftop bar as it’s our last night here (boo hoo). But that’s the drawback with these short sun breaks, they’re always over all too soon. This leaves the perpetual question we always ask at this point as our sun-fueled expedition comes to an end, ‘where shall we go next?’
